Nothing’s more fun than a surprise visit from my son, Tom and my granddaughter, Ariana! They stopped by yesterday and I was invited into Ari’s imaginative play. First, she made a cozy bed out of blankets and a pillow on the living room floor. Then I was invited to take a “nap” with her for about 2 minutes. She started a countdown and after number ten we were waking up because as Ari said, “the sun was up.”

Ariana decided we should have a party and collected all the stuffed animals she could find and put them on chairs at the dining room table. Then we rinsed off some blueberries and brought them to the table for snacks. Ari loves blueberries and she really helped all her fuzzy friends to finish them! Then it was time for another nap!

Well, this nap was shorter than the original nap, lasting about a minute! There was so much to do that Ari couldn’t be spending so much time sleeping. We were up again checking on her friends at the dining room table. Then off to draw a picture at the kitchen table, where she proudly printed her name on the paper.

Once more, back to the makeshift bed in the living room for yet another nap. Then she made a drawing with dry erase markers as a decoration for our party. At this point her cousin, Michael arrived with his Mom and he and Ariana had fun playing with Uncle Mike, who chased them around the first floor. They were taking turns throwing a huge koosh ball at Uncle Mike to stop him from getting them. Uncle Mike is such a good playmate!

After dinner Ari and Michael sat on my lap watching You Tube videos and then were treated to a bath by Michael’s Mom, Marianne. Before long it was time for them to go, and the house was silent. It was just a pleasant reminder of how the house used to be when their parents were growing up here.
