On Wednesday, June 2nd at approximately 8:37 AM, my daughter Katie and her husband Dan were blessed with a beautiful baby boy, Thomas Elijah Renwick. Thomas weighed in at 8 lbs. 7 oz and was 21 1/4″ long. He made a noisy entrance letting everyone know in the operating room that his lungs were fine. Katie and Dan stayed in their hospital room from Wednesday morning to Friday afternoon spending some quality time with the new addition to their family. No one was allowed to visit them while they were in the hospital because of Covid restrictrions. Big sister Ellie (18 months) spent a few days with Mom Mom and then Grandma and Grandpa Renwick before meeting her little brother on Saturday evening and returning home on Sunday.
The anticipation of looking forward to the birth of a new child and grandchild help lessen the depression of Covid for all involved. There is nothing more precious than looking into the eyes of a newborn or holding a sleeping baby in your arms to realize that there can be joy even in the midst of anxiety. Thomas has done that for his family, just as all my other grandchildren have. Their arrivals brought joy when joy was hard to find. Loving them and watching with wonder how they are growing is the new passion of my life and has energized me. I just wish I had as much energy as they do so I could keep up with them better. Their childlike sense of wonder reminds me of their parents when they were growing up at home.
Of course, the world is different now technologically and physically. Artificial intelligence and machine learning are at the forefront of technology. The world is globally connected through its many avenues of social media. Climate change is becoming a real problem and wars continued to be waged. Despite all these changes, one thing that is constant is the love between a child and his/her parents and grandparents. That love is one thing we can count on in this everchanging world. It is life sustaining, hope for a better future and realization that relationships matter more than anything else.
I thank God for the blessings of all my children and their spouses and the very special grandchildren in my life, Ariana, Nora, Michael, Hannah, Eliana and Thomas. As Jesus showed His fondness for children and said, “..whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.” Welcome to the family, Thomas Elijah, we are all thrilled to have you join us!
Love,
Mom Mom
